Auditions on Zoom on June 22, 2026, for DECLARATION

The First Flight Theatre Company Audition Information for Declaration adapted by Frank Farrell, Lynn Manuell and Ben Masterton and directed by Lynn Manuell with music composed by Ben Masterton and musical direction by Lisa Plasse. To be performed at the Hermitage, 335 North Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ for two performances on August 1.

We are looking for 2 nonunion actors 14 years and older and any gender.

AUDITION DATE ON ZOOM: Monday, June 22 from 7pm - 9pm. If interested in auditioning on Zoom email firstflight2018@gmail.com . We will get back to you with a fifteen minute audition slot and a Zoom link.

Declaration is a play within a play (think Pippin) it brings history to life in the manner of Hamilton or 1776. The script is a combination of words from the Declaration of Independence and the words the acting troupe speak during their rehearsal of this new musical. The 45-minute play is a rehearsal and the actors will read any lines from the Declaration of Independence that they speak. It is a fun musical that sometimes has the actors speaking while they play Musical Chairs, London Bridge is Falling Down and Tug-O-War.

For the audition Actors should prepare a one-to-two-minute memorized dramatic monologue and bring a photo and resume. Actors are encouraged to send First Flight a video of their singing in advance of their audition and actors are welcome to sing a 1-to-2-minute song of their choice acapella at their in-person audition. Actors will be asked to read from the script. Sides from the script for the auditions are attached above.

Actors cast will be given a $125 stipend to help with their transportation expenses.

REHEARSALS DATES: Saturdays and Sundays, 12 noon - 4pm, June 27 & 28 (on Zoom), July 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, & 26 and Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, July 29, 30, & 31 from 6pm - 9pm at the Hermitage. Exception: July 11 rehearsal will be at 113 Cottage Place in nearby Ridgewood.

TWO PERFORMANCES: Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 3pm and 7pm at the Hermitage.

Characters – A six member acting group rehearses a new musical called Declaration based on the Declaration of Independence. They are a varied bunch of actors. Actor 1 - troop leader, Actor 2 – spiritual, Actor 3 – critic, Actor 4 – academic, Actor 5 – comic, Actor 6 - landowner
