Actors should prepare a one to two minute memorized dramatic monologue and bring a photo and resume. Actors will be asked to read from the script. See sides from scripts below.

Jolly Wally by Chris Widney/Characters

WALLY: A young walrus in his prime.

MOLLY: A skeptical female walrus, also in her prime.

DOT: A perky trainer and performer, dressed vaguely, like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.

The Ballad of Love Canal by Joyce Carol Oates/Characters

BAMA: in her forties, but girlish; slightly plump; hair hidden by a kerchief (may be in rollers); in housedress

MEDRICK: in his forties, burley, muscular; may have tattoo on forearm; wears thick-lensed glasses; non-descript sports - or work-clothes

DUGAN: eighteen; husky, blemished skin; wears clothes, or a costume, suggesting youthful rebellion/small town chic (ripped jeans, black leather, heavy metal gear, skinhead haircut)

GIP: mid or late forties; may resemble MEDRICK; may have a tattoo; wearing a visored cap, inconspicuous but definitely “sporty” inexpensive clothes.

Each of the NOONANS has a mannerism (nervous tick, twitch, gesture, stammer, habit of scratching, etc.) which should be subtly modulated through the play; never allowed to become mechanical, predictable, or obtrusive. After the first several minutes, the speech difficulty should be only suggested in the way that a stammerer has learned to accommodate his or her stammer.
